Hello I am starting this page for adoptive parents still waiting to travel and they want ot know what I was glad I had brouht ot China with me to help them pack.
- My computer, I am not sorry I lugged this all over China it was so nice to talk to people back home via skype. When you miss the people you love you will be so happy to see their face. It was comforting to hear and see something familiar when you are in such an unfamiliar environment. Baby J was able to hear and see her daddy and big brother before she met them I think this helped her recognize them. While baby slept we watched movies checked email, etc,,,
- Photo album of home, her room, the dog, and people who will be with her when you come home so she is familiar with them.
- Peanutbutter travel container 6 of them bought at Target so glad to have these some times a baby needs to sleep and she ate but you did not. It was so nice to be able to make a peanut buitter and jelly (taken from the breakfast buffet) sandwich while she napped.
- We took pita pockets to make the sandwiches but found bread almost like ours at all provinces in China so you decide but was nice to have the night we arrived to China and felt like going to bed,.
- Ziplock bags you need 1box 36 gallon and 36 quart size. You use these for diapers, garbabge bags because the chinese do not use garbage bags in the hotel rooms, feminine products, put shampoo and conditioners when packing, formula that you opened, rice cereal, etc..many, many uses.
- Large kitchen garbage bags used for a changing pad in airplane so need about 8 of these for the plane ride home bathrooms on planes are disgusting!!!
- Medicines many people on our trip were sick I highly recommend the following medicines. Nyquil gel caps, Dayquil gel caps, benadryll, antibiotic for baby and you, motrin for baby and you, tylenol for baby, zyrtec, cough drops many had itchy throat, nystatin creme for diaper rash she did not need but glad I brought, Sudafed PE, Zantac for heartburn you eat alot of great spicy food, Melatonin for jet lag, Scabies meds did not need but glad I had, mylicon drops for baby used this a few times. Thats it for meds if I think of more I will let you know.
- Glad I brought for me 4 pair of pants, 2 pair shorts, 6 shirts that dry quickly due to the heat you sweat alot you really can do laundry cheaply and easily.
- Glad I brought clothes for baby they did not have a large selection and you really need to wash everything before you let baby wear because there is a certain odor to all the clothes there. I brought 6 pair pants, 4 pairs capri, 3 shorts, 10 shirts, 10 pairs socks all clothes were in different sizes. Some were too small and I gave them a way while in China.
- Had shampoo, body soap, and tooth brush/paste, razors in every hotel but needed my hair conditioner never saw any.
- Thermos little peanut would not eat her formula cold still has to be hot, hot, hot!!!!
- Folgers Coffee Singles and Creamer. Just to be able to make coffee in the morning because chinese coffee is like mud I am not kidding. Occasionally burnt mud it was gross so glad I brought my own.
- 2lbs candy it was comforting to eat something sweet every once in a while and when we visited the village we gave it to the villagers who let us see there house. We had put it in one ziplock bag wish I had broke it up into 4 or 5 baggies so we could have shared with more people. Also if you go to Walmart before you visit village you can buy candy there if you remember.
- Did not need a converter at any hotel I did bring one and a surge protector wished I hadn't. But every time I plugged it in it blew the circuit and we lost power. The hotel will provide you with one or at least every hotel we stayed at (thats 4 of them) provided us with a convereter and surge protector so save the space for something else.
- American diapers some people say they are the same, sorry I do not think they even come close. I did bring some american diapers and used them then bought some of the China pampers green they are not American diapers by any means. They are alright but you have to change the baby every hour or it leaks. I wished I would have brought more american diapers or saved the ones I brought for night time and the airplane. So you need 10 nighttime diapers and 10 for the plane ride. so bring a 26 pack and use the China ones during the day. I did buy premium pampers in Hong Kong and they were similiar to ours, I just never saw premium diapers in china they were just pampers.
- Buy formula before you get to Shaiman island I did not and I looked all over could not find it so I had to use enfamil I brought from home and my girl did not like it, it was not sweet enough. The shop keepers told me that since the melamine incident they do not carry it, there was one store that carried it and they sold out in a day while we were there so if your baby needs it to be weaned to American formula buy 2 bags while in the babys province.
- Extra large duffle bag to pack all the goodies you will buy while in China.
- Eucerin calming creme baby loved having a massage before bed.
- 6 small baby toys one with mirror, stacking cups, one book, .
- ERGO SPORT cannot say enough about this. She loved it, I loved it. I am short and well endowed and it fit fine. Others tried it on and they were tall and skinny and it fit well. So do yourself a favor and buy or borrow it you will not regret it. No back ache what so ever.
- Chap stick.
- Diaper Bag, I brought a back pack and I just did not like it at all. You can't find things in it where a diaper bag has lots of pockets to keep you organized which you need when you are living in a hotel.
- Glad we brough protein bars, beef jerky, candy, peanut butter, almonds, instant oatmeal packets baby loved this.
- 2 Blankets for baby to cover in hotels or to use to lay on in hotel.
- Something to make the nipples bigger,
I used the end of a tail comb and shoved it throught the hole in the nipple. Now that we are home I am trying to get her to drink from one with a smaller hole you want them to do this so they have better control of their tongue for speech. - Bring something to put your hair up, the humidity does funky things to your hair you have no control over it.
